What is CDCP?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal government initiative designed to make oral health care more affordable for eligible Canadian residents with household incomes under $90,000 who lack private dental insurance. It covers a wide range of preventive, diagnostic, and restorative services, with coverage rolled out in stages to seniors, children, and those with disabilities.

Goal

To increase access to dental care for uninsured residents, saving them an average of $900 per year.

Eligibility

Canadian residents without access to dental insurance (from work, school, or private plans) and an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000

Includes exams, X-rays, cleanings, fluoride, fillings, root canals, sealants, dentures, and some oral surgery.

Applications are phased, with full enrollment by 2025. Renewal is required, with the 2026-27 period opening on April 15, 2026, for existing

It is not a free program; depending on income, patients may have to pay a co-payment (a percentage of the costs).
